We just published our October issue of Cabarrus Living Magazine, in which we highlighted fall recipes, fall art and fall images. The normal brown and orange feel of the harvest season.
October is also Breast Cancer awareness month. We highlighted this as well.
I had to interview a survivor and write the article. And it was life changing.
This woman has been through two Chemotherapy treatments, two Radiation treatments and heart surgery in the last 5 years. Oh yea, and ran a successful Mayoral campaign in her spare time. I've never been so inspired and sincerely humbled. It was an awesome experience to see this woman simply tell her story and not complain, not be angry, not feel victimized. As a matter of fact, she was worried about her family having to deal with it more than herself. Just a power house of strength and composure.
My point is that I think we tend to overlook the stamina and deep integrity within ourselves and others. It takes someone like a survivor to remind us how sturdily built we really are. She is exceptional. We are all exceptional and I am so grateful she reminded me of that.
I would hedge on the likelihood that there is probably one or two employees in your business that, if you sat down with them and heard their story, would deliver such inspiration. This may not generate sales or contribute to R&D. It is, however, one of the most important investments you can make in your business success.
Fall is usually a time to think of surviving through the Holiday season and into the New Year. But please don't forget to think of surviving as a human factor. It is only when we connect to people that we fulfill our core values. It is nourishment to the soul (literally) of your company.
